Group meeting post

In class today we did a group meeting so our class could share what ideas are in mind and to elaborate on what can be done to help each other develop an even better project and fix any errors. I told my classmates about the blog posts and story boarding and how I plan on filming my project. This is a LINK to how I envision a dock scene.

I mentioned how I will have a cast of my friends and I plan on making it start off with montages and fun adventurous scenes. Then it goes onto the introductory of characters and developing the plot and getting to know them on a more personal level.

The feedback will help a lot because I had the idea to go film in a broken down dock for a more worn down look and vibe in Naples. Or if I decide to shoot on a more fancy side my classmates gave me recommendations of where to go since they have gone multiple times. They mentioned how they felt like it was a perfect spot for what I had described to them.

I want the dock scene to look something like the picture above, it looks very nice and is well placed for the theme of the film

It can also help me by establishing mise en scene elements because I get to target more of that character and the vibe they give off as well as their dressing style.

I also got the idea that I should do flashbacks to a certain point where two of the characters in the past had some sort of tension in the present and that can create conflict and add character to the film.

I think that the group meeting was truly necessary and it really opened up my eyes to help me see clearly how I can make this film happen and also it was good to give my classmates my feedback and see what they can create from that.

Production Progress

My production is near the few final stages of progress regarding the planning. I almost have a set idea on the introductory I want to complete, as well as the scenes I want and how I want it to look like.

How would I start it?

For the first few seconds I want it to be a beach scene with cars going by. Hinting some sort of runaway or fast paced scene which has to do with adrenaline. The following scene would be a close up on the main character, just introduction and getting to know the character. So the viewers will have an idea of who the person is and why are they important.

I will want there to be some sort of fun action happening like a group of friends being in a bad situation or some sort of ruckus so that it is the climax of the opening film. And from then on I plan on finding copy right free music and playing it while the group is happy and exited that they avoided the situation.

When will the characters be presented?

After that climax of events is when I will introduce the title of my film and then introduce the other people in the group. So it will be a beginning to their personality and unique style.

I plan on researching even more on editing to make the title look professional and well placed. This is a LINK for a tutorial I saw and will use for when I make the title.

Another aspect I think I need to also work on is how I will be going to film specific parts of it that are a much more complicated shot. For example a long shot of a certain location and etc.

Other than that I will continue seeing what can be done and I will update you guys on what else I have thought of!

Until next time!!

Reflecting / Title

I'm back! So I have been reflecting a bit and watching many film openings to try and identify what will be going on and to apply that to mine.

One that caught my eye is The Summer I turned Pretty. LINK I like how all of the vibes and themes are developed and I really got to know more in debt of the characters and what is going on and who the main character is. (Belly) The star of the show has the most screen time which I plan to incorporate into my film as well.

For my title I was also inspired by The Summer I turned pretty.

Since I plan on filming as a beachy and adventurous summer movie, I also want to incorporate the ocean into it. Not only because I like it but also because I intend to have deeper meaning to why the ocean is important in my film.

I want to do something related to a shipwreck or a loss at sea mystery to lead the viewers on to "wanting to watch more of it" to see what will happen. I think it is a good way to catch their attention and it also has significance and is not only there just for the looks.

I also found an old film I used to like when I was younger called Mako mermaids. I remembered how they incorporated the ocean and tail in the title because it also has deeper meaning later on in the film.

Although as cringe as it is, LINK the film opening included lots of hints as to what will go on later on and build suspense and lead the viewers to guess what can possibly go wrong.

I will intend on including some key events in the opening and I think it reflects on the characters as well in the personality shown when I introduce them in scenes. The 3 actors that appear above the title are the main characters and they end up being best friends. Which was hinted from the beginning.

Shooting

I did some research on shooting schedules and my layouts for what I will be doing and when I need to film each piece. I think it would be a good idea to have it all flat out planned and to give out that certain storyboard to whoever I will have in my cast so they will know when to do what and when to be available.

I decided I need to go somewhere near the beach or a pool and make it a nice environment to be able to film in to get that certain beach adventure vibe that I am going for. I saw that a storyboard is basically the film planned out in chunks in order of the shots as is in the film.

I also attached a LINK for you to see what I have been reading and studying about for this specific storyboard.

The storyboard would look something like this! It gives a scene per scene imagery for those to be prepared when filming to act it out and do as such.

All of the detailed planning would be a huge success for me and ensure me that it will be set and ready without any mistakes.

Outline / Reflect

Alright, so I have done some research on more horror movies and I read more about how the mise-en-scene is used. Music and sounds are also used in the scene and can be used to mainly identify that the film is a horror. As the actor gets more frightened, the non-diegetic music tempo grows and gains more tense and suspenseful moments. I could incorporate this when making a scene for my outer banks inspired film can have that moment of realization when something goes wrong. (Although I'm not sure what I will do yet) I think it will add a nice touch to it.

The specific scene in scream at night time, with only the sound of crickets and a dog barking, creating a suspicious atmosphere. The producers really did a good job planning when to play what. It is hardly noticeable and easy to feel engaged. Next, the lighting plays a significant part too. As the scene goes on and intensifies, the whole area gets darker and darker.

I will use the lighting drop for when those few words are said and then viewers will be able to have the click moment. I plan on having them hooked and wanting to watch more of it already to find out what happened.

This is the LINK for the trailer for the movie, so you can have an idea of what I am talking about.

This picture shows a perfect resemblance of the heavenly lighting that is used almost looking surreal. I plan on doing something similar so that it reflects back to the moment that was related to the dark deep effect shown earlier.

Film opening ideas

Today in class I watched three other film openings and I started to think about what I wanted to do. I saw a day in the life and an artistic film, it inspired me to then brainstorm on my own personal film opening. I have an idea of making either something related to horror or a beach vibe adventures opening. I feel like it could make it very possible and make it come out nicely.

How could I make it possible??

I don't have any experience in my past with media so I feel like it would be somewhat of a trouble to learn how exactly to build it but watching all the previous films done, it gives me confidence to create my own all by myself. I need to watch editing videos and more ways to film techniques since I do not have a long term experience with this.

There are many conflicts that made the film truly unique and aspects of editing that can create a more entertaining way for viewers to watch and also be successful with the piece. I want to incorporate some more ways of having a dialogue and being unique with it, since I have not seen something being spoken by one person yet.

Why Outer banks??

I really like it because I love the beach and adventure and journeys like such. It gives me passion and inspires me to get up and enjoy the world. I think making this opening film related to outer banks and adventure as such could open other's eyes and also be a big successes.

Sound techniques

I really want to get into more sound techniques. I saw that using stings and sound effects really help trying to describe the viewer what they are trying to see or visualize what can happen in their head. It keeps the audience entertained and curious to find out what is next.

I have been watching the outer banks and seeing how they use certain parts of their song for the film to add when something bad will happen. I've gotten used to it and whenever I hear it I know something is up. I feel like I could use something similar and use that to my advantage for my film opening.

I think it's smart and a good way to keep the audience guessing what can happen and engage their thinking and mind.

The outer banks season 1 opening also used some dialogue techniques to introduce every main character and I feel like I could also incorporate that into my opening. Their cast was well introduced and was easy to tell how it was going to look later on in the film.

Anyways, I'll keep up with you guys in a little!

Till next one, Paula

Developing lighting

 Hey guys!!

I'm back with my second blog post on moving forward with my opening film.  I want to learn more and dive deeper into using lighting techniques and developing setting!

I've been watching some movie intros and trailers to get a sense of what they use with their lighting and how it affects the clips and audience. I got pretty traumatized after a certain amount of them I saw.

Most of the trailers began with dark red and black low shots that are very slowly developing suspense. It ends up working because even I was so drawn into the clips it made my heart drop after the long suspense switches shots. Silhouettes are commonly used and also under exposure is super common. Shooting through objects and elements also does the trick.

In the movie the black phone, they use those techniques and it gets to the audience watching it. Giving them that illusion of building fear.

Anyways, that helped me plan out how I can possibly use silhouettes in my film opening, I think it would give it a very nice touch and add a lot more to it as it creates a vibe.

Until next time!!

Establishing Tone / Developing Characters

 Hey there! I'm Paula,

To start off, for my film opening I am going to be gathering information and researching establishing tones as well as developing characters. I am going to be diving deeper into the movie "Scream". I will analyze the way they use lighting and stings with the audio as well as making scenes entertaining.

Developing characters is also a big part of the production. I think that the development of seeing small clips of main characters as well as villains are introduced and will be easy to identify and have them figured out if that is even the case. The way they speak or act can also hint to the audience what they will be in for and what they should prepare for. Using dialogue and interactions can also lead to that point of suspense.

These topics will help lead me to what I will be doing in my film opening and also what future ideas I can build and create. I will need to go deeper into detail and find out more! Once I gather some more information I will be back and in no time!

I have good hopes for this opening and I think a big part of it will involve with developing characters and introducing them as such. Anyways, I will keep you updated.

Stay tuned!

Music Marketing 2

The overall process began with a storyboard and planning, we start to see the video taking shape mind. Then we planned it out and saw how it would be made. we listened to the song on repeat and figured out all of the parts needed to be filmed and which shots and angles needed to be used. After that, we begam to film and create different scenes from the different angles, we also made our own website and a powepoint showing all the band's fun facts. Then we moved onto editing, piecing together the footage and syncing it with the music. When I finally get to see the finished video, all the hard work feels worth it.The filming took a very long and precise amount of time.

I learned how to film and create many different fun ideas for promoting music and learning about it as well. Marketing strategy and everything. This will help in my Cambridge portfolio and help me with so many upcoming things.

Final Day!

Today is my last and final day of the blog and it has been such a long journey. I wanted to thank you all for being there with me exploring ...
